FLIP is a hands-on, out-of-school program that brings caregivers and their children together to learn in unique, meaningful ways. The program honors caregivers as their children’s first teachers and equips families with practical tools and resources they can immediately use, & the confidence they need to support reading at home—because consistent literacy support beyond the classroom is critical to helping children become strong readers.
Throughout the program, families receive:
Parent and Child Together time (PACT). Through scaffolded, educational activities, families play at their own pace and navigate different literacy skills at various levels. Also includes STEM—Science, Technology, Engineering, Math—activities!
A free, brand-new book of choice for every child in attendance. Even if a child’s visiting from another school/district, we want them leaving with a book to take home.
Breakout workshops. Students play literacy games with staff while caregivers attend a workshop in which they’re empowered with simple ways to incorporate reading at home and share their own ideas for fostering literacy outside of school.
Access to additional community resources/supports. CLN’s partners join FLIP to meet families where they are. For example, we often have local banks host tables to provide free materials/counseling on popular issues/needs.
Free dinner and snacks!
Volunteer at FLIP:
Volunteers for FLIP are given easy-to-follow instructions to host interactive literacy stations for participating families, work the welcome table, and pass out books throughout the night. This can be a one-time commitment or ongoing based on your preference.
Donations:
$25 provides books for a whole family.
$150 provides an evidence-based literacy activity station for families to recreate at home.
$500 supports dinner for all participants at one FLIP night.
