In these in-person elementary school-level sessions, children write a script, practice reading and performance, and ultimately deliver a theater production that is completely their own. By reading and re-reading while practicing the art of performance, students are developing skills without even realizing it. Reading Stars employs a research-based learning model featuring reading supports, innovative arts and drama activities, and essential social and emotional development opportunities to address the needs of both struggling readers and under-resourced students.
Volunteer experience:
Volunteers to support children as they develop the production, write their own scripts, practice their lines, and create the scenery, props and costumes. Ideally, volunteers will commit to a full, two-week session; however, we are particularly flexible with this program and are happy to work with you!
Donations:
$25 provides a student with all of the materials they need to create their own costume.
$75 provides the gift books for an entire Reading Stars cohort.
$250 provides materials for student-created scripts and playbills.
